NCST report on demographic changes in Santhal Pargana region of Jharkhand

National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST) concluded that demographic changes in Santhal Pargana region of Jharkhand over decades had been caused by alleged ‘infiltration of Bangladeshi immigrants’ in the region. The report recommended that non-state actors, specifically non-governmental organizations (NGOs) should be roped in to deal with the problem of infiltration. The infiltration caused number of problems as per the report. Some of them are lack of efficient implementation of government schemes, land disputes, Human trafficking, cybercrimes etc. The report claimed that ‘Bangladeshi muslims’ were acting as ‘middlemen’ to prevent adivasis from accessing the benefits of government schemes.
