Data on CAA not available readily : MHA

While responding to RTI pleas, the Ministry of Home Affairs said the the information regarding the number of applications received and number of CAA beneficiaries is not readily available as the records were not maintained. The reason given by ministry for not maintaining the records was that there was no provision for the same in CAA or Citizenship Act of 1956. It further added that Central Public Information Officer (CPIO) is not required to create or compile information for supplying information to RTI applicant under RTI Act,2005. Although, the information readily available may be provided.
