UP Gangsters appears to be draconian: SC

The Apex Court observed that UP Gangsters and Anti Social Activities (Prevention) Act appears to be draconian. The observation came while the court was hearing a plea filed by man who has challenged Allahabad High Court dismissal order seeking to set aside proceedings against him pending before a district court. The Apex Court had sought responses from the UP govt. The petitioner has been booked under the provisions of the mentioned Act on allegations of illegal mining in the Ganga.
