The Supreme Court heard two writ petitions filed by the government of Tamil Nadu against the governor Dr. RN Ravi for withholding bills between 2020-2023 which require his assent to be passed.
The bills include decisions regarding the premature release of prisoners, removal of the governor as the Vice Chancellor from many universities among others.
Justice J.B Pardiwala and Justice R. Mahadevan comprising the bench listening the matter, questioned the governor’s decision and asked Why TN Governor Unable To Decide On Bills & Referring Them To President? We Want To Know’.
