SC rejects petition seeking deletion of words secular and socialist from the preamble

The petition challenged the legality of adding the words “secular” and “socialist” to the preamble of the Indian Constitution on the grounds that it exceeds the Parliament’s power to amend the constitution under Article 368. The Court rejected the plea and the Bench said that Parliament’s power to amend the constitution extends to preamble as well as it is also a part of constitution. Further, the court noted that the plea lacked legitimate cause and justification.
