SC issued directions to improve remission policy

The Apex Court has issued directions to the states and UTs aimed at improving the transparency of policies governing permanent remission for the convicts in the country. The directions came while the Bench was hearing a suo motu case of 2021 titled as ‘Policy Strategy for Grant of Bail’. It also directed to inform the convicts of any rejection of applications for permanent remission within one week.
