Supreme Court’s direction on December 2015 to implement a ‘comprehensive legislation’ against sex trafficking is yet to be implemented. The proposed “Organized Crimes Investigative Agency” which was supposed to be functional before December 1,2016 didn’t come into existence till date. The government could only point to amendments made to expand the ambit of NIA to include the offence of Traffic in Human. The Court asked the government to address the steps taken to counter the “considerable increase in cyber-enabled sex-trafficking”. This issue has been brought before the hon’ble Court by NGO Prajwala.
