The Madras High Court questioned the usage of the term “Gender Identity Disorder” to describe people who identify themselves as part of the LGBTQIA+ Spectrum.
It was observed that the usage of the term suggests that the individual is suffering from a disorder and ignores their sexual orientation.
Justice Venkatesh was also informed by the State about the proposition of two policies – for trans, intersex people and other for the LGBTQIA+ community. The court in turn questioned the rationale and asked them to file a note on the difficulties of having one policy.
